FEATURED MACHINE

THE MASTER

Many collectors have one or more of these popular machines in their collection. These were manufactured by the Norris Manufacturing Co. of Columbus. Ohio. There are some machines seen with different names and designs on the vending flap, but it is believed these were customized for the operators.

There are a huge amount of variations in case design, colors and castings. The green and tan porcelain seems to be the most common, with red and black porcelain a close second. Blue and white is fairly rare as is all white. The cases were also made in aluminum and plated/stainless finishes. Models with and without the side windows are found.

All models were offered as bulk (candy or nuts) and gum or marble vending wheels. The gum vending wheels also are seen as two gumballs for one cent and six for three cent ( 1-2-3) versions.

Coin mechanisms were offered as one cent, one cent gooseneck, penny nickel fantail, penny nickel gooseneck and five cent gooseneck. I’ve also heard that there were fantail models in straight penny and straight nickel. The fantail models are by far the most impressive looking and had quite complicated coin and slug detectors built in.

The earliest Master machines had the star vending door, and a tray in the base. All of these I’ve seen do not have a patent date, only Patent Applied For.
